Die Universitätsspitäler und die medizinischen Fakultäten sind das unverzichtbare Rückgrat für eine qualitativ hochstehende Gesundheitsversorgung in der Schweiz. Sie bilden zudem die nächs-te Generation von Ärztinnen und Ärzten sowie Pflegefachpersonen aus. Die finanzielle Situation der Universitätsspitäler ist extrem herausfordernd. Dazu kommt ein hoher Investitionsdruck – in bauliche Infrastrukturen, aber auch in die Digitalisierung und das Personal. Diese Investitionen sind notwendig, die Finanzierung ist aber nicht sichergestellt. Damit wird die Tarifpartnerschaft ausgehöhlt und der Druck lastet auf den Universitätsspitälern und ihren Mitarbeitenden. Die finan-zielle Situation wird sich zuspitzen – leidtragend ist nicht zuletzt die Bevölkerung.

Am Universitätsspital Basel (USB) kommt es zu einem Führungswechsel. Dr. Werner Kübler, seit 2008 Spitaldirektor des USB, hat sich entschieden, im April 2025 seine operative Tätigkeit am USB zu beenden und wenige Jahre vor seiner Pensionierung strategische Aufgaben ausserhalb des USB zu übernehmen. Der Verwaltungsrat dankt Werner Kübler bereits heute für seine herausragenden Leistungen und die langjährige erfolgreiche Führung des USB.
